In a time that is fast yielding to the virtual shopping experience, how wonderful it is to have a vendor call on you to see, touch and try her wares. Closer to home in Kabini, in rural Karnataka, it is still not uncommon to have vendors of various goods and products call on you at home. One hopes to see her go about her life and trade for many moons to come, until she is rendered irrelevant by convenience shopping – a silent monument to a way of life when things were slower, tangible and grounded in the here and now.
